Categories

Photo Realistic

This category is dedicated to images that achieve a high level of realism, closely mirroring the texture, lighting, and details found in the natural world. These images should be indistinguishable from photographs, showcasing the ability of AI to replicate the complexity of real-life scenes, including landscapes, portraits, and everyday objects.

The key aspects to consider include accuracy in color representation, lighting effects that reflect real-world conditions, and intricate details that convey the texture and material properties of the depicted subjects.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts category celebrates images that stand out for their artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation across a range of styles, encompassing both traditional art forms like painting and sculpture, and modern digital creations.

Entries in this category may draw inspiration from historical art movements or present entirely new visual languages, exploring abstract concepts, emotional depth, and narrative storytelling through composition, use of color, and technique.

This category recognizes the transformative power of AI in expanding the boundaries of artistic expression, inviting entries that challenge conventions and showcase unique artistic visions.

Architecture

This category focuses on images that exhibit outstanding architectural, urban planning, and interior design qualities. Entries should display a high level of innovation, aesthetic appeal, and practicality in architectural concepts, ranging from futuristic cityscapes and innovative building designs to elegant interior spaces.

Considerations include the creative use of space, integration with the environment, sustainability, and the ability to evoke emotional responses. The Architecture category aims to celebrate how AI can be used as a tool for envisioning the future of our built environment, presenting visionary ideas that could shape the next generation of architectural design.

Fashion

In the Fashion category, the spotlight is on images that push the boundaries of fashion design, presenting innovative concepts, trends, and styling. This includes avant-garde designs, futuristic fashion concepts, and reinterpretations of classic styles through a modern lens.

Entries should highlight creativity in garment design, accessories, and overall styling, demonstrating how AI can contribute to the evolution of fashion.

This category seeks to showcase how artificial intelligence can inspire new directions in fashion, from conceptual sketches to fully realized designs that could influence future trends.

Judging Criteria

Originality and Creativity

This measures how unique and innovative the artwork is. Judges look for works that offer new perspectives, challenge conventional art forms, or creatively use AI to produce unexpected results.

Technical Proficiency

This aspect evaluates the artist's skill in utilizing generative AI tools and techniques. It includes assessing the complexity of the prompts and/or tools used, the integration of various AI models, and the technical execution of the artwork.

Aesthetic Appeal

This criterion focuses on the visual impact of the artwork, including its composition, color, texture, and overall visual harmony. It considers how well the elements of the piece work together to create an aesthetically pleasing image.

Conceptual Depth

Judges may consider the depth of the ideas, themes, or narratives behind the artwork. This includes how well the artwork communicates its intended message or emotion and the relevance and profundity of its conceptual underpinnings.

Innovation in AI Utilization

This evaluates how the artwork advances or innovates in the field of generative AI. It looks at the novel application of AI technologies, experimentation with new models or techniques, and contributions to the development of AI in art.

Judging Process

The Charis Awards are committed to a fair, transparent, and comprehensive judging process. Below are the steps and criteria involved guiding our evaluation:

Selection of Judges

Our jury panel consists of distinguished artists, designers, photographers, architects, technologists, and academics. Judges are selected for their expertise, exceptional taste, and pioneering work in exploring AI in their respective fields.

To ensure a broad and inclusive range of perspectives, the selection process aims for diversity in geography, culture, gender, and professional background.

Initial Screening

Submissions are initially reviewed to ensure compliance with submission guidelines.

Depending on the volume of submissions, a pre-selection phase may be necessary to reduce the number of entries to a manageable size for our judges. This stage may be carried out by a pre-selection committee and through software that filters out submissions not meeting the basic requirements of the contest.

Detailed Evaluation

Eligible images are then individually evaluated by each member of the jury of the category the participant assigned, based on the judging criteria mentioned above.

This stage often involves a deeper evaluation of the storytelling, emotional impact, composition, innovation, and how well the image meets the theme or criteria of the specific category it was submitted to.

Final Deliberation

The judging panel convenes to discuss the finalists and make final award decisions. This stage ensures a consensus is reached and that the awarded artworks truly represent the best in generative AI art. Discussions focus on the merits of each finalist, considering the diversity of styles, techniques, and interpretations.

In the event of a tie or significant disagreement, the chairperson of the panel will have one vote to help resolve these disagreements and guide the panel towards a consensus or a democratic decision, ensuring a fair and balanced determination of the award recipients.

The decisions of the judging panel are final and binding.

Announcement of Winners

Winners are announced on our website and through our media partners. All participants will be notified of the competition results via email.
